Mae
We adopted Mae in 2019 when she was surrendered to the pet store Tabitha worked at. Her previous owners had to move out of their apartment and couldn’t keep her. After arriving to the store, Tabitha’s manager asked if she wanted to take Mae home and Tabitha didn’t hesitate to say “Yes!”
Housing
Mae lives in a forty-gallon breeder aquarium with a wire lid. The breeder aquarium is wider than a standard tank so she has more floor space for her wheel, toys, and hiding places. We use paper shavings as bedding and she likes to pile the bedding up in one corner of the cage to make a cave to sleep in.
Building Trust
Mae doesn’t like to be handled and is really shy compared to other hamsters we’ve had in the past but Tabitha worked with her and was eventually able to build trust. Sometimes it takes a while to build trust with timid animals but if anyone can do it, it’s Tabitha. She has a special gift when it comes to teaching animals to trust.
Food
Mae is fed Oxbow hamster food and she also gets fresh fruits and vegetables and hamster treats.
Goodbye My Friend
Mae crossed Rainbow Bridge on March 31, 2020.
