Meet the pigeons!
Kookalooka
Kookalooka joined our family on September 22, 2023. He’s a rock pigeon and we believe he hatched in 2022. He was found in a neighborhood with shredded feathers and punctures all over his body. He was also lethargic, weak, and malnourished. The person who found him took him to the Humane Society. The veterinarian at the Humane Society treated his wounds and brought him back to health. Once he had recovered from his injuries, he was listed as an available pet to adopt. Tabby came across the adoption listing one night around 11:00 and we went to the Humane Society the next day to adopt him.
Pigeons are extremely social birds and although Kookalooka had bonded with Tabby, we knew he needed a pigeon companion. Tabby reached out to several local pigeon groups to find Kookalooka a friend. Lots of people told her she could come to their farm to trap the wild pigeons in their barn. She didn’t want to take pigeons out of the wild so she thanked the people and kept looking for Kookalooka’s friend.
Wedding Chicken
Wedding Chicken came into our family on October 8, 2023. She’s a homing pigeon and we believe she hatched in 2023. When her previous family found her in their yard, it was love at first sight. They immediately felt a connection with her. They brought her into their home and named her Wedding Chicken. Even though they were becoming more and more attached to her, they knew the right thing to do was to try to find the family who lost her.
After having no luck in their search for her previous home, they welcomed her into their family. She had full “run” of the home and could fly wherever she wanted to. She had lots of toys and treats and was a very pampered pigeon.
It didn’t take long before her family realized they were allergic to birds. They did everything they could to work around the allergies from taking medication to considering allergy shots. But in the end, there was no way around the allergies.
The family was completely devastated because they couldn’t keep her. Their hearts were broken, and they were worried sick about where she would go. Then, they came across Tabby’s call for help to the local pigeon community. Kookalooka needed a companion and Wedding Chicken needed a new forever home. It was the perfect match! Tabby and the family talked a lot over the next couple of weeks. Arrangements were made, and they brought her to us. She settled into her new home quickly and started laying eggs within a few days.
And Baby Makes Three
Wedding Chicken and Kookalooka are the proud parents of a beautiful little baby named Pepper. Pepper hatched on March 14, 2023.
